MYRTLE SHIELDS
Myrtle Shields, 92, of Topton died Friday (April 28, 2006) at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Dill and Eliza Grant Grant and the wife of the late Emitt Grady Shields who died February 8, 1975. Myrtle was a homemaker and a member of the Briartown Baptist Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Margaret Gay Mathis of Topton, Rebecca Grant of Lenoir, NC, Norma Jean Pearson of Citra, FL, and Ann Dawson of Cherryville, NC; two sons, Willard Shields of Sylva, NC, and Cecil Shields of Granite Falls, NC; a sister, Gaynell Mashburn of Topton; and 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a great great grandson.
Funeral services at 11:00 AM Monday (May 1) in the Brairtown Baptist Church with Rev. S.J. Waters officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. Pallbearers: Allen Bolic, Chris Shields, Brandon Curtis, Billy Manders, Shane Hedrick, and John Latta.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews where the body will be until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.
The family requests memorials be made in loving memory of Myrtle Shields to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, Mountain Region Office, 31 College Place Ste. D320, Asheville, NC 28801-2644.
