JAMES DILLARD SHIELDS

James Dillard Shields, 71, of Andrews died Thursday (April 5, 2007) in a Murphy hospital. A native of Macon County, he had moved to Cherokee County in 1994. He was the son of the late James Frank and Paralee Grant Shields. He was a retired employee of Baker Furniture. Dillard was a member of the Junaluska Baptist Church. He loved playing gospel music and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Mary West Shields; two sons, Jimmy Wesley Shields and James Michael Shields both of Hickory, NC; three sisters, Brenda Gail Wilbanks of Dallas, GA, Delores Ann Smith of McDonough, GA, and Mary Elizabeth Phillips of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Stanley Shields of Thomasville, NC and William Shields of Andrews; four grandchildren and a great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services at 12:00 PM Saturday (April 7) in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews with the Rev. Lewis Welch officiating. Interment in Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers: Billy Carringer, Jamie, Earl, and Kenneth West, Matthew Shields, and Brian McCoy.

The family will receive friends from 10-11:45 Saturday morning at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews prior to the services.

The family requests memorials be made in memory of James Dillard Shields to the Junaluska Baptist Church, PO Box 1325, Andrews, NC 28901.
