ROBERT C. “BOB” WITT

Robert C. “Bob” Witt, 93, of Murphy died Saturday (April 12, 2008) in a Murphy medical center. He was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County and was a son of the late Cyrus William and Ethel Sudderth Witt and the husband of the late Voneata Howard Witt, who died December 30, 2005. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War and served in the United States Army. He fought in the European Theatre during WWII. Bob was a retired concrete finisher.
Surviving are three daughters, Lynn Anderson and husband, John of Murphy, Sarah Pifer and husband, Bill of Henderson, NV, and Emily Cook of Franklin; a sister, Eloise Crisp of Murphy; a brother, Max Witt of Murphy; and four grandchildren, Tyler and David Anderson and Jason and Billy Patterson.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Tuesday (April 15) in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with Rev. Harold Stiles officiating. Interment was in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post 96, DAV Chapter 73, VFW Post 10222, and the Hayesville VFW Post 6812 (Allison-Bristol). Pallbearers were Joe Adams, Alan Pipes, Jim Lunsford, Kenneth Higgins, Butch Graham, and J.C. Owenby. Honorary pallbearers were Fred and Shawn Johnson, Rex Sudderth, Jake Stiles, and Sam Davis.
The family received friends from 6-8 Monday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in loving memory of Robert C. “Bob” Witt to the American Cancer Society, Cherokee County Chapter, PO Box 1151, Murphy, NC 28906.
