WINSTON CRAIG

Winston Craig, 66, of Murphy died Sunday, April 26, 2009 in an Asheville hospital. He was a native of Cherokee County where he had lived most of his life. He was the son of the late Winston Earl and Virginia Mulkey Craig. He was a graduate of the University of South Florida, Tampa with a BS degree in Education. He had taught for several years at Murphy High School and had served many years as a Cherokee County Magistrate. Winston was a member of the Murphy Volunteer Fire Department and the Murphy First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Virginia Craig Roberson of Savannah, GA; two grandchildren, Anna Grace and Ethan Roberson; and his companion of 25 years, Maureen Graves Kent.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 1 in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with Dr. Drew Corbett officiating. Interment was in the Sunset Cemetery. Pallbearers were Terry Summerous, David White, Don Coleman, Dustin Graves, Doug King, and Doug Radford.
The family received friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Winston Craig to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Western North Carolina Chapter, 5950 Fairview Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28210.
