JOHNNY ANDERSON
Johnny Anderson, 64, of Andrews died Tuesday (Aug. 3, 2004) at his residence. A native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Lester Anderson and Thelma Marie Whitaker Anderson Hardin. He had served in the US Marine Corp and the National Guard Reserve. He received an associate degree in recreation from Tri-County Community College. Johnny had worked as the recreational director for the Town of Andrews for six years and the recreational director for Cherokee County Recreation Department for the past two years. He was a member of the Valley River Baptist Church. He enjoyed coaching youth basketball and softball for ten years and later refereed youth sports for six years. His hobbies included woodworking, yard work, and pitching horseshoes.
Surviving are his wife, Darlene Hood Anderson; three daughters, Kimberly West and husband, Bud of Newberry, SC, Karen Anderson of Marble, and Kandi Anderson of the home; a son, John Anderson and wife, Traci of Andrews; a sister, Lucille Garrett of Andrews; a brother, Jerry E. Anderson of Andrews; and six grandchildren, Travis McGhee, Matthew West, Kolbe Dooley, Kelsi Moore, Rachel Anderson, and Cameron Moore.
Funeral services at 4:00 PM Wednesday (Aug. 4) in the Valley River Baptist Church with the Revs. Roy Phillips and Harold Stiles officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Pallbearers: Allen Williams, Eddie Adams, Ernest Jones, R.L. Howard, Bill Norton, and Bob Berry. Honorary pallbearers: Jim Dailey, Dana Jones, Rick Trammel, Rex Cope, Peewee Davis, and Perry Hogan.
The family will receive friends from 2-3:45 Wednesday afternoon at the Valley River Baptist Church prior to the services.
The family requests memorials be made to the Andrews Elementary School Beautification Project, 205 Walnut Street, Andrews, NC 28901.
