Lois Whitaker, 64, of Andrews died Sunday (Aug. 28, 2005) at her residence. A native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Benalee Whitaker. She had been an employee for 17 years for Berkshire Knitting Mills. Lois was a charter member of the Faith Baptist Tabernacle. She enjoyed working with her flowers and crafts. Surviving are three sisters, Winnie Whitaker of the home, and Pat Williams and husband, Tommy and Shirley Newton and husband, Ronnie all of Andrews; a brother, Willis Whitaker and wife, Joan of Andrews; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services at 2:00 PM Thursday (Sept. 1, 2005) in the Faith Baptist Tabernacle with the Revs. Homer Wilson and Sam Hayes officiating. Burial in the Valley River Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Spencer Smith, Tony Jones, Keith Creasman, Ricky Palmer, Jerry Lowe, and H.L. Mintz. Honorary pallbearer: Doodle Derreberry. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the Faith Baptist Tabernacle. The family requests memorials be made in loving memory of Lois Whitaker to the Valley River Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Jean Phillips, PO Box 1189, Andrews, NC 28901 or the American Cancer Society, Cherokee County Chapter, PO Box 1151, Murphy, NC 28906.
