An entrepreneur as well, he was owner of many businesses with his wife, including a plant nursery, sub sandwich shop, motel, pawn shop, and mini-golf course. In 1960, he started Acme Commercial Security Guard Company also doing investigations, polygraph services, telephone answering service, radio dispatching and pager service in South Florida. He developed a reputation as an internationally known private investigator being a member

Founding Sunny Point Mountain Land Company, he became a major land developer and licensed builder in North Carolina which allowed him to enjoy the North Carolina mountains while buying and selling many hundreds of acres of land and building 52 homes.

He was politically active since 1956 until the present, having once made an unsuccessful bid for Sheriff. He also served as Aide to Congressman J. Herbert Burke of Hollywood, FL in the 1960s and was Security Aide to Presidential Candidate Hubert H. Humphrey in 1968.
