LYNN  G.  WOOD


 

Lynn G. Wood, 79, of Andrews died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008 at his residence.  A native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Charles B. Wood and Jessie Conley Wood Owens.  He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army.  He had worked for 30 years with the Andrews Post Office.  Lynn was a member and usher of the Saint Andrew Lutheran Church.
 
He was preceded in death by a brother, Burke Wood.
 
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Betty Nichols Wood; a son, Johnny Wood and wife, Debbie of Andrews; two sisters, Virginia Huls and Catherine Trull both of Andrews; two granddaughters, Rachel Pope and husband, Ben of Marble and Stephanie Wood of Asheville; and two great granddaughters, Carly and Emma Grace Pope.
 
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Friday, Aug. 29 in the Saint Andrew Lutheran Church with Rev. George Simmons officiating. Interment was in Valleytown Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Bryant, Ronnie, and Steve Jackson, Ben Pope, Randle Harris, and Rick McDonald. Honorary pallbearers were Randy West, Lyle Bryson, Jack Mintz, and Gene Webb.
 
The family received friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Lynn G. Wood to the Saint Andrew Lutheran Church, PO Box 1491, Andrews, NC 28901.
