William R. “Bill” Ellis, 79, of Andrews died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008 in a Murphy medical center.  He was a native of Cherokee County, where he had lived most of his life. He was the son of the late William Newton and Cellia Hardin Ellis and the husband of the late Cara Lee Barnes Ellis, who died Jan. 18, 1995.  He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army. He was a retired construction worker.  He attended the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.  He enjoyed being with his friends.
 
Surviving are his sister, Bonnie Mae Kelly of Gastonia, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
 
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Sunday, Aug. 24 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews with the Rev. Eddie Hardin officiating.  Interment was in Valley River Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Andrews V.F.W. Post  7620.  Pallbearers were Russell Anderson, Johnny, James, and Michael Ellis, Bobby Foster, and Robert Kelly.
 
The family received friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews.
