CLAUDIA DOCKERY STOW
Claudia Dockery Stow, 76, of Murphy died Wednesday (Dec. 31, 2003) in a Murphy care facility. A native of Cherokee County, she had lived in Knoxville, TN most of her life before returning to Cherokee County four years ago. She was the daughter of the late Columbus Whitcum and Eva Crowder Dockery and the wife of the late Frank J. Stow, who died in 1983. She was a psychiatric nurse for Eastern State Psychiatric Hospital in Knoxville for 32 years. She was a member of Marble City Baptist Church in Knoxville. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was an avid Braves fan.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna Whaley Cook and husband, Don of Murphy; three sisters, Maggie Davis of Murphy, and Alma Pack and Minnie Hensley both of Knoxville, TN; a brother, Ralph Dockery of Murphy; two grandchildren, Tiffany Carson and husband, Glenn and Laura Plemmons and husband, Jacob; and three great grandchildren, Hannah and Trae Carson, and Peyton Plemmons.
Funeral services at 2:00 PM Friday (Jan. 2, 2004) in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Lawrence English and Dr. Chester Jones officiating. Burial in the Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery. Nephews as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy. The family requests memorials be made to the Cherokee County Children’s Shoe Fund, c/o Betsy Lane, PO Box 482, Murphy, NC 28906.
