Mac Pickens,
60, of Murphy died Thursday (Dec. 11, 2003) in a
Murphy hospital. A native and lifetime resident of
Cherokee County, Mac was the son the late Richmond
and Eva Sudderth Pickens. He was a veteran of the
Vietnam War, serving in the US Marine Corp. He was
employed in the furniture industry and was of the
Baptist faith.
Surviving
are his wife of 35 years, Mary Edna Hyatt Pickens;
a daughter, Denise Pickens Johnson and husband, Johnathan
of Atlanta, GA; a son, Carl Pickens of Atlanta; a
sister, Grace Sudderth of Chattanooga, TN; a brother,
Avery Pickens of Columbus, OH; a granddaughter, Corrine
Pickens of Atlanta; and an aunt, Maudie Scruggs of
Cincinnati, OH.
Funeral
services at 2:00 PM Monday (Dec. 15) in the Chapel
of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Revs. John
Paul Webb and Bruce Oliver officiating. Burial in
Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military graveside
rites conducted by the American Legion Post 96, DAV
Chapter 73, and VFW Post 10222. Pallbearers: Darrell
Sudderth, Mark, Harry, Avery, and Gene Pickens, and
John Goodwin. Honorary pallbearers: Furman McCombs
and Paul Allen.
The family
will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the
Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
The family
requests memorials be made to the Mount Zion Baptist
Church, 654 Texana Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
