Ivie Funeral Home ROBERT EARL QUEEN

Robert Earl Queen, 66, of Murphy died Friday (Dec. 26, 2003) in an Asheville hospital. A native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Wayne and Ruby Bettis Queen. He was a supervisor with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Bridge Maintenance Department, where he had worked for 41 years. He was a member of the Ranger Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Carole Elliott Queen; a daughter, April Dawn Queen of Murphy; a son, Robert L. Queen and his wife, Vicki of Hayesville; four sisters, Wanda Ensley of Atlanta, GA, Dorothy Graves, Lucille Ford, and Barbara Queen all of Murphy; two brothers, Kenneth Queen of Andrews and Danny Queen of Atlanta, GA; and five grandchildren, Robi Elliott, Autumn Moore, Elliott Queen, December Queen, and Blake Brooks.

Funeral services at 11:00 AM Monday (Dec. 29) in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Dan Gaddy officiating. Burial in the Elliott Family Cemetery. Pallbearers: Jeff Robertson, Terry Killian, Scott Cook, Harold Howard, John Dockery, and J.C. Penland. Honorary pallbearers: Coleman Coggins, Buddy Wilson, Roy Rathbone, Nebo Trantham, Shane Edwards, and the crew of the NC Department of Transportation-Cherokee County Bridge Department including Mark Johnson, David McDonald, Michael Lovingood, Dean Farner, Daryl Wright, and Larry Flowers.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 Sunday evening (Dec. 28) at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Lung Association, P.O. Box 2702, Asheville, NC 28802.
