Alex Dowell, 88, of Hayesville died Saturday, December 18, 2004 in a Clay County care center. A native and lifelong resident of Clay County, he was the son of the late Jim and Hattie Stillwell Dowell, and the husband of the late Mettie Mull Dowell who died August 21, 2003. He had retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, Lewis Dowell of Hayesville; a brother, Fred Dowell of Spokane, WA; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services at 2:00 PM Tuesday (Dec. 21) in the Moss Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Duckworth officiating. Interment in the Stillwell Cemetery. Pallbearers: Robert, Willard, Kenneth, Lucas, and Mike Mull, and Preston Woody. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 Tuesday afternoon at the Moss Memorial Baptist Church prior to the services. Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville in charge of arrangements. Remember
