MARY ESTELLE SAULSBURY

Mary Estelle Thomas Shiver Shoup Saulsbury passed away in Hayesville, Clay Co., North Carolina on Friday, 16 Dec 2005. She was 83. Mary was born 22 Jul 1922 in Bainbridge, Decatur Co., Georgia, the daughter of the late Charles and Lillie Florence (Martin) Thomas. Her maternal grandparents were the late Daniel Alexander and Roxie Estelle (Davis) Martin. Her paternal grandparents are unknown. On 22 May 1941 she married Grayson Heyman Shiver in Tallahassee, Leon Co., Florida. Grayson and Mary were blessed with three children: Janice Ann, Karen "Micki", and Grayson Heyman Jr. Mary worked for a number of years to support her children and was always very active in civic and community activities. She moved with her family to the Orlando, Florida area in 1959.

Mary married for a second time on 12 May 1960 to Grover Keith Shoup in Orlando and were blessed with a son, Brian Keith Shoup. On 19 Apr 1976, Mary married a widower, and the love of her life, Franklin "Frank" Wallace Saulsbury, Jr. in Orlando, Florida. Mary and Frank enjoyed spending their time being involved in the yacht club and other civic organizations in the Kissimmee/Orlando area. In the early 1980s, Frank and Mary retired to the mountains in Hayesville, North Carolina. Mary was a very devoted and active member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was involved with the women's organization.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, all three of her husbands, a brother, Charles Thomas Jr.; and a daughter, Janice Ann Shiver Crews, late of Ellensburg, Washington.

She is survived by three children, Karen "Micki" Brown of Newcastle, Washington; Grayson Heyman Shiver, Jr. of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Brian Keith Shoup of Pasco, Washington, as well as two step-daughters, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

On December 20,2005, Mary was interned next to her husband, Frank, at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Orlando, Florida.

Friends and family are invited to her memorial service being held in the First United Methodist Church, Hayesville, NC on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at 1:00 PM. with Rev. Kirk Hatherly officiating. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund, First United Methodist Church, PO Box 85, Hayesville, NC 28904.
