JACK  R.  WYKE


 

Jack R. Wyke, 77, of Marble died Monday (Dec. 31, 2007) at his residence.  A native of Polk County, TN, he had lived in Cherokee County for most of his life.  He was the son of the late Sam and Minnie Payne Wyke.  For many years, he had worked as a machinist and electrician for American Thread until his retirement in 1977.  Jack had been a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church for the past 69 years and also served as a deacon.
 
He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Lynn Wyke, who died in 1972.
 
Surviving are his wife, Helen Ruth Hancock Wyke;  two sons, Steve R. Wyke and wife, Margaret of Marble and Chris Wyke and wife, Tina Henderson of Robbinsville;  four sisters, Bernice Hancock of Marble, Lavada Hardin of Pontiac, MI, Cathleen Jolly of Gastonia, NC, and Noretta Carswell of Glen Alpine, NC;  a brother, Earl Wyke of Fayetteville, NC;  four grandchildren, Stephen Charles, Eric, and Darren Wyke, and Maria Henderson-Wyke;  and a great granddaughter, Cheyenne Wyke.
 
Funeral services at 2:00 PM Thursday (Jan. 3) in the Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall Moss officiating.  Interment in Moss Cemetery.  Pallbearers:  Cecil  Lovingood, Harold Hancock, Jim Lance, Harrison Dockery, Jeremiah Brinke, and Larry Barton.
 
The family will receive friends from 12-1:45 Thursday afternoon at the Oak Grove Baptist Church prior to the services.
 
The family requests memorials be made in memory of Jack R. Wyke to the Oak Grove Baptist Church, 50 Allman Street, Marble, NC 28905.
