David Eugene "Gene" Beaver, 88, of Andrews died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 at
his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. He
had worked as a mechanic for many years and retired in 1983 from the Town of
Andrews. He enjoyed gardening, farming, jigsaw puzzles, and especially
teasing his family.
He was the son of the late Gordon and Ella Davis Beaver and was the husband
of the late Palice Passmore Beaver, who died April 12, 2006. He was also
preceded in death by two sisters, Della White and Gaynelle Osborne; a great
grandson, Joseph Mayberry; and one great great granddaughter, Ashlyn
Matheson.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Rathbone and husband, James of Marble,
and Pansy Phillips of Andrews; two sons, Kenneth Beavers and wife, Nadine,
and Jerry Beaver and wife, Elizabeth all of Marble; and eight grandchildren,
11 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Sunday, Dec. 6 in the Chapel of Ivie
Funeral Home, Andrews with the Rev. Ralph Barnard officiating. Interment was
in Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tony Rathbone, Harold Beaver,
Jason Fox, Ricky Garrison, David Patton, and Christopher Greene.
The family received friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the Ivie Funeral
Home, Andrews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of David
Eugene "Gene" Beaver to the Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011,
Washington DC 20090-6011.
