BENNIE JACK YATES

Bennie Jack Yates, 70, of Andrews died Wednesday (Feb. 18, 2004) in a Murphy medical center. A native of Clay County, Bennie grew up in Andrews but lived most of his life in Georgia and Florida before returning to Andrews in 1988. He was the son of the late Bennie Yates and Hester Brendle Yates Waldroup. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Air Force. He retired after 37 years as a quality assurance representative with the Department of Defense. He was a member of the Green Acres Baptist Church in Warner Robins, GA.

He was preceded in death by two infant sons.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Bobbie Deaton Yates; a daughter, Lisa Orr of Andrews; a son, Jeff Yates of Athens, GA; a sister, Opal Luther of Andrews; and two grandchildren, Megan and Madison Rogers of Andrews.

Funeral services at 1:00 PM Saturday (Feb. 21) in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews with the Revs. Harry Hawk and Benny Clodfelter officiating. Burial in the Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers: Donald Ray Luther, Ronald Luther, Jack Tatham, Ray Radford, Mike Rogers, and Scott Gunnells. Honorary pallbearers: Gaines Luther, Don Deaton, and Don Cook.

The family will receive friends from 11:30-12:45 Saturday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Andrews United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Drawer 1310, Andrews, NC 28901.
