JOHN JACKSON DEBTY

John Jackson Debty, 85, of Marble died Saturday, February 11, 2006 at his residence. He was a native of Graham County, but had lived in Cherokee County for most of his life. He was the son of the late Chris and Cansada Taylor Debty. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army in the Pacific Theatre. He was a retired heavy equipment operator. John was a member of the Vengeance Creek Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter, Willie, Charlie, and Carl Debty; two grandchildren, Anthony and Rebecca Debty; and a great grandson, Walker Morgan.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Sadie Rogers Debty; four daughters, Reatha Brown and husband, Larry of Andrews, Lodema Crowell and husband, Gregg of Lake Toxaway, NC, Connie Phillips and husband, William of Marble, and Pamela Flowers and husband, Heath of Mineral Bluff, GA; three sons, Johnny Debty and a special friend, Jenny Winters of Fairmont, GA, and Walter Debty and wife, Dianne, and Robert Debty and wife, Kim all of Marble; a sister, Roberta Lunsford of Marble; a brother, C.B. Debty of Andrews; and 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services at 11:00 AM Tuesday (Feb. 14) in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with Revs. Fred Lunsford and Lewis Welch officiating. Burial in the Derreberry Cemetery. Pallbearers: Richard and Shane Lunsford, William Debty, Dustin Phillips, Travis Crowell, Jason O’Dell, and Chris Brown. Gordon Farmer and Larry Brown as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.

The family requests memorials be made in loving memory of John Jackson Debty to the Vengeance Creek Baptist Church, P.O. Box 253, Marble, NC 28905.
