LENA SCROGGS

Lena Scroggs, 82, of Brasstown died Tuesday (February 7, 2006) in a Murphy medical center. A native of West Germany, she had been living in the United States since 1946 and moved to Clay County in 1968. She was the daughter of the late Anton and Eleonore Brandler Angelmaier and the wife of the late Edward Burnett, who died in 1954. She and her husband, Mercer, were owners and operators of Brasstown Grocery for many years. Lena was of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed all of her family and friends and taking care of her home.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Burnett, who died July 2001.

Surviving are her husband of 38 years, Mercer Scroggs; a sister, Erika Romanowski of Germany; two grandchildren, Stephanie Bowyer and Jason Burnett both of Ellijay, GA; two great grandchildren, Marissa and Hunter Bowyer; and a niece, Renae Chambless.

Memorial services at 2:00 PM Thursday (February 9, 2006) in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Aud Brown officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Town Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Ellijay, GA.

The family will receive friends from 1-1:50 Thursday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Lena Scroggs to the Little Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 12, Brasstown, NC 28902.
