BETTY LEE HARRIS

Betty Lee Harris, 85, of Andrews died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2007) in an Andrews care center. A native of Haywood County, NC, she had lived in Cullowhee, NC before moving to Nantahala in 1948 and later to Andrews. She was the daughter of the late James Mitchell and Essie A. Buchanan Price. She retired in 1977 after 25 years as an elementary school teacher in Nantahala and Andrews. Betty was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Konnaheeta Women’s Club, and the Andrews First Baptist Church. Betty was a former member of the NC State W.M.U. Board.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years, James Lee Harris; a daughter, Nancy Lynn Harris Jackson and husband, Harvey of Columbia, SC; two nieces, Vicki Peek of McEwen, TN and Dawn Shirey of Dickson, TN; and one nephew, Mike Price of Kevil, KY.
Funeral services at 2:00 PM Thursday (Feb. 8, 2007) in the Andrews First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Lamb and Dr. Chester Jones officiating. Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers: David Slagle, Virgil Gibson, John Cook, Wendell Hedden, Jim Bristol, Donald Hogan, and Johnny Brown.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 Thursday afternoon at the Andrews First Baptist Church prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Betty Lee Harris to the Andrews First Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 427, Andrews, NC 28901 or the Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, Mountain Region Office, 31 College Place, Suite D320, Asheville, NC 28801-2644.
