FRED “Hub” WEST

Fred “Hub” West, 82, of Nantahala died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2007) at the home of his daughter. A native of Cherokee County, he had lived in Macon County most of his life. He was the son of the late Will and Melinda Morgan West and the husband of 60 years to the late Maggie Ann Mason West, who died on Dec. 13, 2006. Fred was a simple man of the Baptist faith who loved his family and friends and had worked in the construction field before becoming disabled.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Fred William West and Jimmy Dean West; two grandsons, Eli Stewart West and Anthony Mark Hooper; and three sisters and seven brothers.
Surviving are two daughters, Evelyn Rosealee Postell of Andrews and Linda Hooper of Robbinsville; a son, Tony West of Asheville; a sister, Ruby Wood of Belmont, NC; a brother, Troy West of Peachtree; and seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services at 11:00 AM Saturday (Feb. 17) in Aquone Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Postell and Johnny Postell officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. Pallbearers: Lewin West, Danny Mason, Mike Waters, and Jimmy, Daniel, and Richard Mason. Honorary pallbearers: Jerry Owenby, Jesse Wood, Tre’ Mason, and Tommy Hooper.
The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 Saturday morning at the Aquone Baptist Church prior to the services.
The family requests memorials be made in memory of Fred “Hub” West to the Good Shepherd Hospice, PO Box 465, Hayesville, NC 28904.
