HILDRED MADELINE WEST HARDIN PULLIUM

Hildred Madeline West Hardin Pullium, 83, of Ocala, FL, formerly of Andrews, died Monday (February 12, 2007) in a Marion County, FL care center. She was a native of Cherokee County where she had lived most of her life before moving to Florida in 2000. She was the daughter of the late Weldon A. and Lula Adams West and the wife of the late Vincent Hardin, who died January 22, 1971 and Marvin Pullium, who died March 22, 1982.  She retired from the Lee Plant in Andrews after a combined service of 30 years with the Lee Plant, Vanity Fair, and Berkshire Knitting Mill.  Hildred was a member of Valleytown Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star, Andrews Chapter #15 and was Past Worthy Matron.
 
Hildred was a skilled artisan making beautiful baskets, quilts, and wood carvings. Always wanting to learn to swim, she took swimming lessons in her 50’s and competed in Senior Olympics in her 60’s and 70’s. She helped all that needed her and volunteered with Senior Services of Andrews. She was a wonderful cook, homemaker, and caregiver to many family and friends.
 
She was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
 
Surviving are a daughter, Margaret Hardin Abernathy and husband, Jake of Ocala, FL;  a step-daughter, Diane Mintz and husband, Bill of Andrews;  two grandchildren, Jay Abernathy and wife, Heather and Nyoka Abernathy Mintz and husband, Eric all of Buford, GA; six great grandchildren, Kayla Abernathy, McKenzie Abernathy, Jake Abernathy, Erinn Mintz Perry, Casey Mintz, and Benjamin Mintz;  three step-grandchildren, David Mintz, Karen Mintz Lane, and Angie Mintz Postell;  seven step-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
 
Funeral services at 2:00 PM Saturday (Feb. 17, 2007) in the Valleytown Baptist Church with the Revs. Ron McClure and Bobby Ray Ammons officiating. Interment in the Valleytown Cemetery.  Nephews as pallbearers.
 
The family will receive friends from 12-1:45 Saturday afternoon at the Valleytown Baptist Church prior to the services.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Hildred Madeline West Hardin Pullium to the Valleytown Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Ruby Brown, 2542 Stewart Road, Andrews, NC 28901.
