DAVID E. “DEAN” McGILL


David E. “Dean” McGill, 69, of Andrews died Sunday (Feb. 3, 2008) at his residence. He was a native of Gaston County, NC, but had been living in Cherokee County for the past 24 years. He was the son of the late George Heath and Edith Martha McMancis McGill. He had served in the United States Coast Guard and the reserves.  He had owned and operated a sandwich shop in Gastonia, NC and had worked for a local bread company. Dean attended the Valleytown Baptist Church, but was a member of the Flint Groves Baptist Church in Gastonia.
 
Surviving are his wife, Lucille Hardin McGill;  two daughters, Elaine Pagell and Deana McGill both of Gastonia;  two sons, Gary McGill and David E. McGill Jr. both of Gastonia;  two step-daughters, Michelle Jacobs of Andrews and Susan Newton of Murphy;  two step-sons, Ricky and Chucky Gregory both of Andrews; two sisters, Polly Hodge and Helen Long both of Gastonia;  and six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
 
Funeral services at 1:00 PM Wednesday (Feb. 6) in the Valleytown Baptist Church with the Revs. Paul Jones and Ron McClure officiating. Interment in Valleytown Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Andrews VFW Post 7620. Pallbearers:  Steve Cook, Ronnie Long, Tim and Cameron Jacobs, Mitchell Newton, and Jimmy Hiffner.
 
The family will receive friends from 11-12:45 Wednesday at the Valleytown Baptist Church prior to the services.
 
The family requests memorials be made in memory of David E. “Dean” McGill to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 1151, Murphy, NC 28906.
