WALLACE KEITH CRAWFORD

Wallace Keith Crawford, 89, of Hayesville went to be with the Lord Sunday, February 17, 2008. He was a native of Clay County and was the son of the late Ed and Anna Curtis Crawford. Wallace served for five years in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. Upon his return, he opened Crawford’s Service Station, which he operated for 35 years. He was a long-time member of the Oak Forest United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee for many years. Wallace was active in the Clay County Lions Club for over 50 years, where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow award for dedicated humanitarian services.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years, Virginia Crawford; two sons, Keith Crawford and wife, Donna of Hayesville and Mike Crawford of Waynesville; and three grandchildren, Kevin Crawford and wife, Kelly G., Kelly Sean Crawford, and Kristin Crawford and two great granddaughters, Madison and Morgan all of Hayesville.
A celebration of his life was held at 3:00 PM Thursday, February 21, 2008 in the Oak Forest United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jacob Kyker and Guinnell Hunter officiating. Interment was held in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post 96, DAV Chapter 73, VFW Post 10222, and Hayesville VFW Post 6812 (Allison-Bristol). Pallbearers were Charles Penland, Jason Shook, Brian Trout, Will Penland, Lynn Waldroup, and Shea Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Clay County Lions Club.
The family received friends from 1-2:45 Thursday afternoon at the church prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Wallace Keith Crawford to the Oak Forest building fund, PO Box 152, Hayesville, NC 28904.
