EDNA SYLENA WHITENER

Edna Sylena WEDNA SYLENA WHITENER, 84, of Murphy died Friday, January 13, 2006 at her residence. A native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Louella Sneed Taylor. She had worked for several years for Providence Hospital and later retired from Murphy Medical Center. She was a member of the New Hope Church of God.

She was preceded in death by a son, Paul Whitener.

Surviving are two daughters, Janie Ann Lovingood and her husband, James of Murphy and Iva Jean Hendrix and husband, Sidney of Whitesburg, GA; four sons, LeRoy Whitener and his wife, Frances and Richard Whitener and his wife, Shirley all of Murphy, Harvey Whitener and his wife, Kathy of Dalton, GA, and Michael Andrew Whitener and his wife, Martha of Waynesville, NC; a daughter-in-law, Beatrice Whitener of Sandy Ridge, NC; a sister, Inez Anderson of Murphy; a brother, Colon V. Taylor of Murphy; and 20 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.

Funeral services at 2:00 PM Sunday (Jan. 15) in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Revs. James Lovingood and Ralph Baker officiating. Burial in the Ogreeta Cemetery. Grandsons as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.

The family requests memorials be made in loving memory of Edna Sylena Whitener to the Ogreeta Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Alice Martin, 55 Crystal Springs Rd, Murphy, NC 28906.
