HAROLD DUNCAN

Harold Duncan, 73, of Murphy died Sunday (January 15, 2006) in an Asheville hospital. A native of Mitchell County, NC, he had moved to Cherokee County in 1963. He was the son of the late Roy and Belle Duncan. After moving to Murphy, he worked for Carolina Tire and Appliance until 1973 when he became owner and operator of Duncan Appliance Service. He attended Tomotla Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Mary Lou Allen Duncan; a daughter, Jill Stalcup and husband, Mark of Murphy; a son, Harold Dean Duncan and wife, Karen of Bakersville, NC; two sisters, Rosa Lee Angel of Weaverville, NC and Sue Young of Daytona Beach, FL; and a nephew, Jerry Angel.

Funeral services at 2:00 PM Tuesday (January 17) in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Harold Stiles officiating. Burial in Old Martin's Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers: Bob Temple, Jerry Angel, Carl Auvil, Robert Stilwell, and Eddie and Edwin King. Honorary pallbearers: Ernest Decker, John Davidson, Ted Keller, Bobby Clayton, Larry Stalcup, John Angel, and Roy Pipes.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 Tuesday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.
