NEAL R. DAVENPORT

Neal R. Davenport, 89, of Hayesville died Tuesday (January 15, 2008) in a Towns County care center. A native and lifelong resident of Clay County, he was the son of the late Edd Hedden and Flora McClure Davenport. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army. Neal was a retired farmer. He was a member of the DAV Post 73 and the Shooting Creek Church of God.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Ora Maney Davenport; three sons, Phillip Wade Davenport and wife, Kendra of Maryville, TN, Joe Allen Davenport and wife, Sue of Hayesville, and Buddy Ray Davenport and wife, Mary of Harrison, TN; three sisters, Dovie Harvey and Mabel Maney both of Dellroy, OH, and Eulene Smith of Louisville, OH; and four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services at 11:00 AM Friday (Jan. 18) in the Shooting Creek Church of God with Rev. Eddie Brewer officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. Pallbearers: Tim and Terry Davenport, Darryl Maraman, Rex and Ricky Maney, and Enoch Ledford.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville where the body will be until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in loving memory of Neal R. Davenport to the Shooting Creek Church of God Cemetery Fund, 3685 Old Highway 64 East, Hayesville, NC 28904.
