HELEN WARNER HILTON
Helen Warner Hilton, 89, of 22 Mauney Street, Murphy died Thursday (July 12, 2007) at Murphy Medical Center. Helen grew up in Murphy and attended Lees McRae College and Oglethorpe University and studied and taught weaving for four years at Penland School of Crafts which was founded by her aunt, Miss Lucy Morgan. She and her late husband, James, owned and operated Hilton Business Equipment for 55 years. She was an accomplished artist and was a former member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild. She was a member of the Mayflower Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Helen was also a member of the Episcopal Church of the Messiah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin E. and Laura Morgan Warner; her husband, James C. Hilton, who died in 2002; and a sister, Ester Bajza.
Surviving are two sons, David C. Hilton and James R. Hilton and wife, Billie; two brothers, Benjamin W. Warner, Jr. and wife, Margaret and Ralph A. Warner and wife, Izella; a sister, Lucy Bailey; a grandson, Morris Hilton; three step-grandchildren, Jeff, Jason, and Julie Brown; a sister-in-law, Sandra M. Hilton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services at 3:00 PM Sunday (July 15) in the Episcopal Church of the Messiah with Rector Dr. James A. Johnson officiating. Inurnment in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-2:45 Sunday afternoon at the church parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Helen Warner Hilton to the Murphy Medical Center Foundation, 2002 US Highway 64 East, Murphy, NC 28906 or the Episcopal Church of the Messiah, PO Box 67, Murphy, NC 28906.
