LOLA HUGHES HASS

Lola Hughes Hass, 90, of Murphy died Monday (July 30, 2007) at her residence. A native of Polk County, TN, she was a lifetime resident of Cherokee County. She was the daughter of the late Charlie A. and Cordia Duckworth Sexton and the wife of the late William Radford Hughes, who died Jan. 24, 1942 and Ferd S. Hass, who died Dec. 2, 1986. She was a retired textile worker and was a member of the Owl Creek Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Roger Hass and Roy Hass.
Surviving are five daughters, Nella Thomas and husband, George of Dalton, GA, Barbara Mills and husband, William of Englewood, TN, Janice Ray of Fairmont, GA, Donna Knight of Marcola, OR, and “Penny” Kilby and husband, Charles of Franklin, NC; three sons, Ray Hughes and wife, Janie, Ralph Hughes and wife, Brenda, and Johnny Hass and wife, Sandra all of Murphy; a sister, Lucille Marcus of Murphy; and 24 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren.
Funeral services at 11:00 AM Thursday (Aug. 2) in the Owl Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Farris Reid and Scott Cole officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. Pallbearers: Kevin Kilby, Doug and Stacy Hughes, Dewayne Kephart, Lynn Hass, and Bill Mills.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy where the body will be until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.
The family requests memorials be made in memory of Lola Hughes Hass to the Owl Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Charlene Kephart, 2550 Owl Creek Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
