GENE ALLEN HATCHETT

Gene Allen Hatchett, 62, of Murphy died Saturday (July 12, 2008) in a Murphy medical center. A native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Baxter and Bessie Graham Hatchett. He had worked as a truck driver for the NC Department of Transportation. Gene was a member of the Old Fashioned Baptist Church.
 
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Dockery Hatchett; five sisters, Sue Mitchell of Cumming, GA, Ann Beavers and Lisa Hatchett Lynch both of Blairsville, GA, and Katy and Kathy Hatchett both of Roswell, GA; a brother, Dale Hatchett of Roswell; and three half-brothers, Clifton Martin of Murphy, Woodrow Martin of Hampton, NC, and Monroe Martin of Lexington, NC.
 
Funeral services were held at 7:00 PM Monday (July 14) in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with Revs. Hoyt Brown and Lawrence English officiating. Interment was held at 10:00 AM Tuesday (July 15) in the Bellview United Methodist Cemetery. Pallbearers were David and Chris Chatham, Dexter Mitchell, Eddie and Roy Lynch, and Jason Berrong. Honorary pallbearers were Junior Palmer, Ralph Carter, and Tony Sneed.
 
The family received friends from 5:00-6:45 Monday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.
