WILLIAM H. HOOKER
 

William H. Hooker, 86, of Murphy died Saturday (June 23, 2007) in an Asheville hospital. He was a native of Lakeport, FL, but had lived most of his life in Orlando before moving to Columbia, NC and then Murphy 18 years ago. He was the son of the late Lawrence L. and Mary Stewart Hooker. Bill was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre. He served aboard the USS Lexington. He was a retired automobile mechanic and loved woodworking. He was a member of the Saint William Catholic Church.
 
He was preceded in death by a son, James W. Hooker.
 
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Irene Nedesky Hooker;  a daughter, Carole A. Hooker of Bremerton, WA;  a son, Roger L. Hooker and wife, Cathy of San Antonio, TX;  and three grandchildren, Stephen Hooker and wife, Katherine, and Sarah and Amanda Hooker.
 
Memorial mass at 11:00 AM Wednesday (June 27, 2007) in the Saint William Catholic Church with Father George Kloster officiating.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made in loving memory of William H. Hooker to the Saint William Catholic Church Building Fund, PO Box 546, Murphy, NC 28906.
