WINSTON G. McDONALD

Winston G. McDonald, 89, of Murphy died Sunday (June 10, 2007) at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, he was a retired saw miller and was a member of the Little Glade Baptist Church where he was a deacon, former Sunday School teacher, and church superintendent. Winston’s hobbies included gardening and fishing.
 
He was the son of the late E.B. and Lassie Pearl Vandiver McDonald and the husband of the late Hazel Carroll McDonald, who died June 30, 1991. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Bobby and Jimmy McDonald.
 
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Bruce McDonald;  five daughters, Shirley Woody of Cahokia, IL, Linda Buff and husband, Buford of Hickory, NC, Betty Hampton and Carolyn Bernhardt and husband, Gary all of Murphy, and Sandy Gribble and husband, Chip of Blairsville, GA;  three sons, Leon McDonald and wife, Alice and Eugene McDonald all of Blairsville, and Kenneth McDonald of Marble; a sister, Margie Garrett of Murphy; and 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.
 
Funeral services at 11:00 AM Wednesday (June 13) in the Little Glade Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Palmer, Rev. Kenneth McDonald, and Leon McDonald officiating. Interment in the Hampton Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers:  Rex Woody, Billy Smith, Matthew Brown, Shane and Jeremy McDonald, and Freddy and Jeff Hampton.
 
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy where the body will be until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.
 
The family requests memorials be made in loving memory of Winston G. McDonald to the Hampton Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Helen Lockaby, 1655 Harshaw Road, Murphy NC 28906.
