DAVID JOHNSON
David Johnson, 71, of Murphy died Monday (July 28, 2008) in a Copper Basin medical center. He was a native of Cherokee County, where he had lived most of his life. He was the son of the late Lloyd Johnson and Edna Whitener. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Army. David had worked all his life as an auto diesel mechanic and was of the Baptist faith. His hobbies included gardening and fishing.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Edna Earle Beavers Johnson; two daughters, Cynthia Mlodzik of Murphy and Karen Johnson of Brasstown; a son, Michael Johnson of Murphy; five sisters, Glenda Deal of Maryland, and Helen, JoAnn, Wanda, and Debbie Johnson all of Knoxville, TN; three brothers, Jerry, Gene, and Paul Johnson all of Knoxville; and three grandchildren, Steve Mlodzik of Okeechobee, FL, Clyde Mlodzik of Blairsville, GA, and Roberta Garcia of Murphy.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Thursday (July 31) in the Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Maughan officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Steve, Danny, and Ronnie Whitener, Scott Payne, Charlie McHan, and Steve Forrister.
The family received friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy where the body was until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.
The family requests memorials be made in memory of David Johnson to the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 215 Hopewell Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
