JOHN C. WISHON JR.

John C. Wishon Jr., 58, of Andrews died Thursday (June 5, 2008) at his residence. A native and lifetime resident of Andrews, he was the son of Beth George Wishon of Andrews and the late John C. “Bud” Wishon Sr. and the grandson of the late John H. and Myrtle Wishon. He graduated from Western Carolina University. John worked as a supervisor for Baker Furniture from 1972 to 1980 and for Duke Energy as a relicensing manager. He is the author of a book recently published about mountain heritage, The Swamp Doctor. He was a member of the Marble Springs Baptist Church. John fought a long battle with cancer and has been an encouragement to many others.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Carol McRae Wishon; four daughters, Mary White and husband, Matthew of Andrews, Sherry Hill and husband, Anthony of Hendersonville, Patrice Wishon of Asheville, and Kristin Spradling of Murphy; a son, Jonathan Spradling of Murphy; six grandchildren, Jacob Wishon, Blake, Riley, and Graham Hill, and Landon and Haydon “Little John” White; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a lifelong best friend, Gary Morgan.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Sunday (June 8) in the Andrews First Baptist Church with Dr. Chester Jones and Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Interment was held in Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary Morgan, John Reighard, Mike Payne, Joe Barton, Steve Mashburn, Walter Raxter, Jeff Lineberger, and Keith Wishon. Honorary pallbearers were Ron, Don, and Ken Wishon, Johnny Brown, Terry Allison, Marlon Blaylock, Tommy Ramsey, Ronnie Bateman, Donald Cross, Steve Reed, George Gallaher, Jenn Huff, Tracey Elliott, Scott Fletcher, Dr. Elizabeth “Bunny” Johns, and Lisa Leatherman.
The family received friends from 5-8 Saturday evening at the Andrews First Baptist Church.
