GARLAND HARRISON LUTHER

Garland Harrison Luther, 74, of Andrews died Monday (March 28, 2005) unexpectedly at his home. A native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Harrison Lee and Effie Daisy Adams Luther. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the US Army. He was a farmer and retired from the textile industry. He was employed with the TVA for several years, Berkshire Knitting for 25 years, and Coats American for 16 years. He was a member of the Valley River Baptist Church. He loved gardening and life in general. He also enjoyed fellowshipping and traveling with the Vengeance Creek Baptist Church Sunshine Club. The Andrews Senior Citizen Center Sunshine Club was a great joy for him over the past several years. Garland loved and took great pride in his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonita Roxanne Luther; a son, Bobby Lynn Luther; three sisters, Gertrude and Glestie Luther, and Gwendolyn Shilvey; and five brothers, Gay, Giles, Guy, George, and Gordon Luther.
Surviving are two sons, Boyd Luther and wife, Lisa of Marble and Bruce Luther and wife, Elaine of Andrews; a sister, Grace Derreberry and husband, Carl of Andrews; a brother, Gaines Luther and wife, Opal of Andrews; four grandsons, Lucas, Derek, Bryan, and Cody Luther; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services at 7:00 PM Wednesday (March 30) in the Valley River Baptist Church with the Revs. Roy Phillips and Fred Lunsford officiating. Interment at 10:00 AM Thursday (March 31) in the church cemetery. Pallbearers: Lucas, Bryan, Cody, Donald Ray, and Hardy Luther, and Adrian Sharp. Honorary pallbearers: Purel Miller, Ray Smith, Willard Greene, and Bruce Lunsford.
The family will receive friends from 5-6:45 Wednesday evening at the Valley River Baptist Church prior to the services.
The family requests memorials be made to the Disabled American Veterans of North Carolina (DAV-NC), c/o Pam Carman, 589 Hardin Hollow, Andrews, NC 28901 for the Veteran's Van Fund.
