A native of Clay County, he had lived in Cherokee County most of his life. He was the son of the late Sullivan and Dora Smith McClure. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army in the European Theatre and received a Purple Heart. He was a retired employee of Baker Furniture. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Louise Dills McClure; two daughters, Carol McClure Davis and Jean Gardner; four sisters, Alice Hogsed, Monette Hensley, Della Mae Murphy, and Oreen Hall; a brother, Robert McClure; and a granddaughter, Vivian Davis.
