A.J. “Jackie” MORRIS
A.J. “Jackie “ Morris, 59, of Brasstown died Saturday (March 24, 2007) at his residence. A native of Polk County, TN, he had lived in Cherokee County most of his life before moving to Clay County ten years ago. He was the son of the late Glen A. and Susie Bell McDonald Morris. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the US Army. He had worked for Clifton Precision for over 20 years. Jackie was a member of the Cherokee Masonic Lodge #146 and a Scottish Rite and York Rite and Shriner. He was also of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are three sisters, Louise Coffey of Brasstown, Mae Lee of Athens, GA, and Mary Helen Miller of Colorado Springs, CO; and two brothers, Bobby Morris of Meansville, GA and Donald Morris of Jasper, GA.
Funeral services at 1:30 PM Friday (March 30) in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Revs. Jimmy Rogers and Tom Leatherwood officiating. Interment in the New Martins Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post 96, DAV Chapter 73, VFW Post 10222, and Hayesville VFW Post 6812 (Allison-Bristol). Pallbearers: Dale Allen, David Owens, Haskell Roberson, Larry Westmoreland, Gary Westmoreland, and Larry Wilson. Honorary pallbearers: Charles Shook, Ab Radford, and J.L. Coffey.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
The family requests memorials be made in memory of A. J. “Jackie” Morris to the New Martins Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Gail Chastain, 561 Wilson Road, Brasstown, NC 28902.
