BARBARA  W.  McCONNELL


 

Barbara W. McConnell, 75, of Murphy died Tuesday (March 20, 2007) at her residence.  A native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Thelma Cole West and the wife of the late Ralph “Chuck” McConnell, who died March 18, 2003.  She was a graduate of Western Carolina Teacher’s College with a bachelor’s degree in business education.  She retired after 31 years as a teacher for the Murphy High School.  She was a member of the Murphy First Baptist Church where she was a choir member and Sunday School teacher for over 40 years.  
 
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Neal and Reid West.
 
Surviving are a daughter, Tanya McConnell Sherrill of Boone, NC; a son, Chris McConnell and wife, Kim of Greenville, SC;  a brother, Gene West of Andrews;  and four grandchildren, Taylor and Cole Sherrill and Brian and Amy McConnell.
 
Funeral services at 2:00 PM Thursday (March 22) in the Murphy First Baptist Church with Dr. Woodrow Busch officiating.  Interment in Sunset Cemetery.  Pallbearers:  Dr. Russell Hughes, Noland Smith, Jonathan Dickey, John Snow, John Snow III, and Erik Brinke.
 
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
