Elden J. Hicks, 88, of Andrews died Wednesday (March 28, 2007) at a Murphy medical center.  A native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County, she was the son of the late Jim and Maggie Hoyle Hicks.  He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army in the European Theatre. He was a retired tunnel construction worker.  Elden was a member of the Junaluska Baptist Church and the Andrews VFW Post 7620 and American Legion.
 
Surviving are a daughter, Sally Bailey of Andrews;  three sons, Thurston Hicks of Alexis, NC, Jerry Hicks of Rosman, NC, and Jack Hicks of Franklin, NC;  a sister, Cora Curtis of Andrews;  and 11 grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.
 
Graveside services at 11:00 AM Saturday (March 31) in the Valleytown Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Andrews VFW Post 7620 and with Rev. Homer Wilson officiating.  Pallbearers:  Todd, Scott, Allen, Levi, and Jack Hicks.
