HORACE C. “Bud” RAPER
Horace C. “Bud” Raper, 81, of Cherokee Hills, TN entered into eternal life on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 in a Chattanooga, TN hospital. A native of Cherokee County, he had lived in Stow, OH for 40 years before moving to Cherokee Hills in 1987. He was the son of the late James O. and Frances Hamby Raper and the husband of the late Reba Price Raper. He had worked in commercial construction, retiring in 1987. He was an active member of the Ohio Laborer’s Union for 40 years. He was known for his love of landscape and horticulture. Bud was a member of the River Valley Baptist Church and was involved in the building of churches in both Ohio and North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie King; and three brothers, Marcus, Pearly, and Windle Raper.
Surviving are his wife, Viola Davenport Raper; four daughters, Gail Raper-Spurling of Atlanta, Judy McLain and husband, Randall of Garland, TX, Dianna Pennell and husband, Larry of Kent, OH, and Tonya Raper of Blue Ridge, GA; nine sisters, Lillian Allen of Stow, OH, and Dorothy Kaylor, Gertrude Kilpatrick, Maggie Stiles, Louise Davenport, Irene Mathis, Reba Davis, Mary Long, and Marie Nation all of Murphy; seven brothers, Tom Raper of Stow, OH, Hoyt Raper of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and Goldman, Guy, Truman, Charles, and Henry Raper all of Murphy; and ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services at 1:00 PM Saturday (March 17) in the River Valley Baptist Church with the Revs. Tom Jordan, Brad King, Wayman Lovell, and Don Johnston officiating. Interment in the Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Michael Campbell, Randy Raper, Michael Giulitto, and David, J.K., and Wesley Davenport. Honorary pallbearers: Pat Campbell, Donnie Davenport, and Matthew Raper.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 Friday evening at the River Valley Baptist Church.
The family requests memorials be made to the Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Charles Boring, 496 Cliff Raper Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
