
COY LEE FURR

Coy Lee Furr, 97, of Hayesville died Sunday (May 13, 2007). He was a native of Concord, NC, but had been a resident of Clay County for over 35 years. Mr. Furr was the son of the late Walter Columbus and Renee Little Furr. He was a combat veteran in the United States Army in the European Theatre and was a recipient of two Purple Hearts. Coy was a retired US Forest Ranger for 45 years. He was a member of the Martin Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
Surviving are four daughters, Connie Watts and husband, John of Denver, NC, Gail Bolton and husband, Tommy of Belmont, NC, Kathryn Oana and husband, Alan of Hayesville, and Renee` Grindstaff and husband, Jeff of Hiawassee, GA; a son, Ronald J. Rogers and wife, Terry of Maiden, NC; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; and a niece, Ellen Bates and two nephews, Gil and Dr. Carl Furr.
Graveside services at 11:30 AM Wednesday (May 16) in Martin Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Franklin officiating and with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post 96, DAV Chapter 73, VFW Post 10222, and Hayesville VFW Post 6812 (Allison-Bristol). Pallbearers: Alan Oana, Paul Glover, Shawn Hawkins, Ricky Martin, Jeff Grindstaff, and Randy Watts.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Coy Lee Furr to the Martin Hill Baptist Church, c/o Pearl Cross, 84 Cross Lane, Hayesville, NC 28904.
