ALAN JOHNSON
T. Alan Johnson, 56, of Morganton, NC, formerly
of Murphy, died Monday (Nov. 10 ) at his residence. A native
of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Forrest Bernard
Sr. and Evangeline Shields Johnson. He had worked as an electronic
engineer with SBS Technologies in Raleigh and was an ordained
minister. Alan was a Master Mason with the Sweetgum Masonic
Lodge
No. 542 and was also a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of the Shady Grove
Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Julie Thompson and husband, Jeremy of Charlotte,
NC; a son, Matthew Alan Johnson of Brooklyn, NY; three sisters, Phyllis Bradford
and Mary Ashley both of Murphy, and Pam Dutton and husband, Bret of Sarasota,
FL; a brother, Forrest Bernard Johnson Jr. and wife, Delores of Murphy; and
his companion, Lucy Goodwin.
Funeral services at 11:00 AM Friday (Nov. 14) in Shady Grove Baptist Church
with the Rev. Ed Beddingfield officiating. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers: Forrest Bernard Johnson III, Eric Bradford, Phillip Ashley, Tony
Ledford, Michael Shields, and Bret Dutton. Johnny Shields as honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral
Home, Murphy where the body will be until placed in the church 30 minutes prior
to the services.
The family requests memorials be made to the Hospice of Burke County, 1721
Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
