A native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late John E. and Carrie Passmore Welch and the husband of the late Lola Smith Welch, who died October 25, 1996. For many years, Fred had worked for Timber Products and the Mundy's Lumber. He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are four sons, Ronald, Bobby and Gary Welch all of Marble, and Kenneth Rogers of Murphy; a sister, Ruby Welch Robinson of Marble; and 11 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services at 2:00 PM Friday, November 7 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with Rev. Paul Hughes officiating. Burial in the Maltby Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: George Van Buskirk, Chris Welch, Tom McClure, Michael Welch, Roger Gunnells, and Ralph Barnard. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
