JESSIE MAE BARNETT

Jessie Mae Barnett, 97, of Murphy died Tuesday (Nov. 2, 2004) in a Murphy care facility. A native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late John Coffey and Maude Smith Coffey Payne and the wife of the late Sam A. Barnett, who died Dec. 22, 1968. She was a homemaker and had also worked in the Peachtree Elementary School lunchroom. She was a member of the Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church, where she was active in Sunday School, Training Union, WMU, and Wednesday night prayer service.

She was preceded in death by three step-children, Ruby Allen, and Wayne and Blaine Barnett; one granddaughter; and one great granddaughter.

Surviving are four daughters, Ruth Shields, Geneva Setser and husband, Pete, Opal Sims, and Barbara Berrong and husband, Bobby all of Murphy; two sons, Clarence Barnett and wife, Jenell and Franklin Barnett and wife, Edna all of Murphy; and 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; and two granddaughters which she raised, Debbie Robinson and Peggy Stanley.

Funeral services at 2:00 PM Friday (Nov. 5) in the Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Chester Jones and Rev. Aud Brown officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Pallbearers: Paul Vaught, Jim Hendrix, Randy Barnett, Verlon Martin Jr., Hoyt Zimmerman, Bob Hendrix, and Glen Carson.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy where the body will be until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.
