JOE MAY

Joe May, 81, of Hayesville died Tuesday (Nov. 30, 2004) in a Clay County care center. A native and lifelong resident of Clay County, he was the son of the late Dr. Jefferson Monroe and Lessie McHan May. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre. He was retired after 25 years with DuPont. He was a member of the Truett Memorial Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by five brothers.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Roberta Moore May; a son, Charles May of Hayesville; and a sister, Beatrice May of Orlando, FL.

Funeral services at 2:00 PM Thursday (Dec. 2) in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Dr. Chester Jones officiating. Burial in the Hayesville Baptist / Presbyterian Cemetery. Pallbearers: Buddy Singleton, Richard Kelley, David Moore, George Kemp, Paul Hedden, and Jack Moore.

The family will receive friends from 12-1:45 Thursday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Hayesville Baptist / Presbyterian Cemetery, c/o Joann Arrendale, 2977 Highway 64 West, Hayesville, NC 28904.
