Lucile Matheson Morrow, 93, of Murphy passed away Tuesday (November 1, 2005) in a Sylva hospital. Born in Young Harris, GA, she was raised in Andrews but lived most of her life in the Unaka/Violet communities of Cherokee County. She was the daughter of the late J.P. and Bertha Parker Matheson, the wife of the late Willard Morrow, and the mother of the late Mike Morrow. Lucile had taught public school for over 37 years in Cherokee County and part of those mentoring years were spent teaching over fifty students at a time in a one-room schoolhouse. She loved her students and had high expectations for them both educationally and morally. Lucile was a member of Reid's Chapel Methodist Church, where she was an active member and Sunday School teacher as long as her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Emogene Matheson and an infant; and her four brothers, Glen, Neal, Carlyle, and Richard Matheson. Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Palmer and husband, Eddie of Sylva, NC; two granddaughters, Adrienne Palmer of Rochester, MN and Natalie Palmer of Chapel Hill, NC; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. Funeral services at 1:00 PM Friday (Nov. 4) in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Jerry Morrow and Dr. Chester Jones officiating. Graveside services to follow at the Morrow Family Cemetery near her home. Pallbearers: Alex and Michael Starks, Alvin, Stanley, and Dwight Morrow, Lee Rainey, and Glenn Crowe. Honorary pallbearers: Jerry and Joe Palmer, Erwin Jones, Greg Bradshaw, and Earl Morrow. The family will receive friends from 12-12:45 Friday at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Lucile Matheson Morrow to her beloved Reid's Chapel Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Carolyn Henry, 7055 Hwy 294, Murphy, NC 28906 or Ensleys' Adult Care Center (where she received such wonderful care for the last eight years), c/o Craft Fund, 505 Racking Cove Road, Sylva, NC 28779.
