ABBIE BARKER




 
Abbie Barker, 105, of Andrews died Friday (Nov. 23, 2007) at her residence.  A native of Swain County, she had been living in Cherokee County since 1972.  She was the daughter of the late Martin Webster and Myra Rebecca Thomasson Taber and the wife of the late John Harvey Barker, who died Dec. 30, 1986. She taught school for 25 years in Swain and Macon Counties. She was a member of the Andrews First Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday School teacher in the Primary and Youth Departments.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, George Henry, Walter, Oscar, and Horace Taber;  and two sisters, Emma Woodard and Ethel Ledford.

Surviving are two sons, Sydney J. Barker and wife, Annie Jean of Littleton, CO and John Kenneth Barker and wife, Janice of Copperhill, TN; five grandchildren, Mike Barker, Debbie Kosirog, Kent Barker, Kirk Barker, and Tammy Morgan;  and 11 great grandchilldren and a great great grandchild.
 
Funeral services at 2:00 PM Wednesday (Nov. 28) in the Andrews First Baptist Church with Dr. Tommy Lamb officiating.  Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers:  Fred West, J.R. Marr, David Higdon, Eddie Wood, Donald Hogan, and Jim Wilson.
 
The family will receive friends from 12-1:45 Wednesday afternoon at the Andrews First Baptist Church prior to the services.
 
The family requests memorials be made in memory of Abbie Barker to the Andrews First Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 427, Andrews, NC 28901.
