Ivie Funeral Home IRENE DAVENPORT ELLER

Irene Matilda Davenport Eller, 99, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 25, 2007.  She was born in Clay County on November 8, 1908, and she lived her entire life in the area.  She was the daughter of the late Theodore M. and Dora Garrett Davenport and the wife of the late A.H. (Zan) Eller.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by sisters Grace Moss and Magalene Thompson, and by brothers Arvel, Jesse, and Roy Davenport.

Although her primary life purpose was to be a Godly homemaker and mother, she  also worked as a census supervisor and as a department supervisor in the clothing manufacturing industry.  She taught Sunday school, ran her flea market, quilted, raised huge vegetable gardens, and preserved the produce well into her 90’s. She also enjoyed singing, reading, and carving.

Irene raised two children who survive her:  Zandra Eller Mac Donald (Archie--deceased) of Powells Point, NC and Canton, GA; and Linda Thompson Walters (Warren) of Jacksonville, NC.  Her grandchildren include Heather Alrich (Darwin), Jeremy Casey (Chasity), Russell Walters (Marie), and Joshua Walters.  She is also survived by great-grandchildren Peyton, Maren, Makenzie, and Cayden; her sister, Polly Sanders, of Cleveland, TN;  and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

A service celebrating Irene’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 28 in the Hayesville Church of God, of which she was a longtime member. She will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Pastor Mitchell Totherow and Rev. Aline Mosteller will officiate the service and music will be provided by Wanda Galloway and Regina Moore. Interment will be in the Hayesville United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Bruce Davenport, Marvin Edwards, Ryan Felton, Mike Moss, Andy Blankenship, and Harry Wells.

Although no viewing will be held, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the Hayesville Church of God from 6:00-7:30 PM on Tuesday, November 27.

In lieu of flowers the family invites friends to continue Irene’s lifestyle ministry to those in need. In her memory, those who chose to do so are encouraged to donate to your church’s benevolent fund, give to a favorite charity, or simply pass on a blessing to someone who needs help.

Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville in charge of all arrangements.
