JOAN MARIE RYAN-MICHAEL ACKERMAN




Joan Marie Ryan-Michael Ackerman, 65, of Andrews died Saturday (Nov. 17, 2007) in a Murphy medical center.

Born April 19, 1942 in Jersey City, NJ, her twin sister, Jane, died shortly after birth. She was the daughter of the late Katharine Pyles and John Francis Ryan Jr. Following the second marriage of her mother, she was adopted by William H. Michael Jr. After her graduation from Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School in Plymouth Meeting, PA, she attended Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Nursing. On Aug. 24, 1963, she married Larry J. Ackerman VMD. Joan and Larry moved to Andrews in August 1998.

Joan was a member of the Andrews United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend of everyone who met her. Her hobbies were count cross stitch, needle point, talking, spiritual hymns, and watching TV.

She was preceded in death by a son, Anthony "Tony" Ackerman, who died March 1, 2007.

Surviving are her husband, Larry J. Ackerman; two sons, David A. Ackerman DVM and wife, Alison of Andrews and Andrew J. Ackerman and wife, Susan of Lawrenceville, GA; five grandchildren, Robert, Christopher, Amanda, Aaron, and Kiersten Ackerman; and a step-granddaughter, Elizabeth Curtis.

Funeral services at 10:00 AM Friday (Nov. 23) in the Andrews United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harry Hawk officiating. Interment in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers: Robert, Christopher, Aaron, and Amanda Ackerman, and Scott Gunnels.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Joan Marie Ryan-Michael Ackerman to the Andrews United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 1310, Andrews, NC 28901.
