A native of Columbus, TX, he was the son of the late William Frank and Susie Baker Nutter. He was a scientist engineer with the University of Wisconsin for 22 years. Gene was a recipient of the 50-Year Masonic Pin. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Mary Ann Souder Nutter; a daughter, Kathleen A. Nutter of Mineral Point, WI; a son, Johann W. Nutter of Longmont, CO; a brother, Douglas W. Nutter of Kearny, NE; two grandchildren, Callan T. Backstrom and Megan S. Nutter; and two great grandchildren, Emily and Alexandra. A memorial gathering was held at the residence on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004 with a prayer at 5:00 PM. Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville was in charge of arrangements. Remember
